Home battery storage in Scotland costs from £2,800 for a 5kWh GivEnergy system to £7,500+ for a 13.5kWh Tesla Powerwall 3, fully installed. When added to a new solar installation, battery costs are lower as the inverter is already included.

Yes. We retrofit batteries to existing solar installations regularly. If your current inverter is compatible, we can add a battery directly. If not, we replace the inverter with a hybrid model as part of the installation. Retrofitting typically costs £500-£1,000 more than adding a battery during a new solar installation.

Octopus Flux is a smart tariff from Octopus Energy designed for homes with solar and battery. It pays up to approximately 30p/kWh for electricity exported during peak periods (4-7pm) and offers cheap overnight import rates (around 7p/kWh). Your battery charges overnight cheaply, powers your home during the day, and exports at premium rates during peak demand. As an approved Octopus partner, we handle the full setup.

Modern lithium-ion home batteries like GivEnergy and Tesla Powerwall are warranted for 10-12 years and typically last 15-20+ years. GivEnergy provides a 12-year warranty guaranteeing at least 80% capacity. Tesla provides a 10-year warranty. Daily cycling does not significantly degrade modern battery chemistry.

Yes. Battery storage qualifies for 0% VAT when installed alongside solar panels or added to an existing solar installation. This applies until 31 March 2027. On a £4,500 battery, this saves you £900 compared to the standard 20% VAT rate. The 0% rate is applied automatically.

Standard battery installations do not provide backup during grid outages for safety reasons. However, both GivEnergy and Tesla offer optional EPS (Emergency Power Supply) or backup gateway features that can power essential circuits during outages. This requires additional hardware at installation. Ask us about backup options during your free survey.

Battery installation takes half a day to one full day depending on system complexity. If added during a new solar installation, it adds no extra time. Retrofit installations to existing solar systems typically take one day including inverter replacement if needed. From enquiry to installation takes 3-6 weeks.

For a typical Scottish home with 4.5kWp solar, a 5kWh battery covers evening usage while a 9.5kWh battery provides near-complete overnight coverage.
