On top of the HES grant, Scottish homeowners can apply for an interest-free loan of up to £7,500. This applies to all properties (rural and standard — no uplift on the loan). This loan is repaid over a period agreed with HES, typically 10–12 years, with no interest charged. Combined with the grant, this gives up to £15,000 (£16,500 rural) towards a heat pump installation. No — Home Energy Scotland stopped funding solar PV panels in June 2024. The HES scheme currently focuses on heat pumps, insulation, and storage heaters. Solar panels in Scotland are still eligible for 0% VAT (until 31 March 2027) and the Smart Export Guarantee, but there is no direct HES grant for solar at present.
