How we work

Scottish Energy Efficiency is an impartial advisory business. We assess your property, design the right system, handle the paperwork — DNO applications, planning — and manage your project from enquiry to handover. We work for you, not for any manufacturer or lender.

Installation is carried out by our MCS-certified partners. They hold the accreditations that matter:

MCS-registered for Solar PV, Battery Storage, and Air Source Heat Pumps — required for the Smart Export Guarantee
TrustMark registered — the UK government’s endorsed quality scheme

Who does the work

Installation

Engineers from our MCS-certified partners carry out all roofing, electrical, and commissioning work. All hold relevant qualifications including NAPIT electrical certification.

Aftercare

Why we focus only on Scotland

Scotland is different enough from the rest of the UK that general advice often does not fit. The support available is different: 0% VAT on solar panels and batteries applies UK-wide until 31 March 2027, while the Smart Export Guarantee lets you earn from exported solar electricity. We built this site to keep the Scottish picture clear.

The homes are different too. Stone-built tenements, granite terraces, harled cottages and older properties with natural slate roofs need different fixings and surveys from the brick and tile houses common further south. The weather matters as well: long summer days help solar generation, while short winter days, wind and driving rain shape how systems are designed, mounted and sized, and make battery storage and efficient heating more valuable.

The local electricity grid is run by two network operators, SP Energy Networks in Central and Southern Scotland and SSEN in the North and islands, and we handle the paperwork for whichever covers your home.
